Senzora History

1876	The founder of Senzora, Antonie Johannes Schoemaker, is ready for adventure and opens a grocery on the corner of the Papenstraat in Deventer.
1908	From the beginning, Schoemaker appears not to be a typical grocer. The change from grocery to soap manufacturer and coffee-roasting company, doesn't surprise anyone. He settles in a small factory in the Bruynsteeg (Diefsteeg in earlier days), also in Deventer.
1916	The company is growing rapidly, and the options to expand the building on the Bruynsteeg are too limited. The two Schoemakers sons spot a perfect parcel on the Raamstraat 4: the realization of a characteristic building takes place and the new factory is a fact.
1917	A.J. Schoemaker and Sons change the name to Senzora (Schoemaker en Zonen Raamstraat). The name originates from a fears contest between all the brothers and sisters of the Schoemaker family.
1917	In the very first building plan of the factory, situated on the Raamstraat, space was reserved for a peppermint factory. The annual report of the Chamber of Commerce shows Senzora as an official soap and peppermint factory.
1936	The Schoemakers find the time ready to once again expand their production scale. As the very first company in the Netherlands, Senzora starts producing soda crystals.
1969	Again as the market leader of Holland, Senzora starts conduct-in house research for the production of phosphate-free detergents. And successfully! Late 1971 TNO (the Dutch organization for Applied Scientific Research) sends out positive reports about the composition and washing power of Tricel, developed by Senzora. The washing powder is biodegradable and completely phosphate-free.
1996	The policy in the eighties and nineties is characterized by numerous necessary innovations. Senzora grows to be a dynamic, flexible and international orientated company. As a logical result of the increasing developments, a new detergent factory opens in 1996 on the Noorwegenstraat.
2001	Led by the fourth generation Schoemaker, Senzora celebrates her 125th anniversary. As a reward, Senzora is crowned a purveyor of the royal house on the same day.
